Are you prepared for an entire week of indoor & outdoor activities and festivals this spring? Ready or not, that's what Adventure Week is bringing to Utah from the 2nd-9th of April, 2016. Come join us in Sandy, where the best parts of urban and mountain living combine in a single metropolitan area. During any given spring day in Sandy you can ski in the morning; climb, golf, or go cycling in the afternoon; and watch a major sporting event in the evening. (How many places in the world can you do all that in one day?) During Adventure Week you'll be able to do all of those things, and much more.

9th Annual Wasatch Fly Tying & Fly Fishing Expo
Venue: SOUTH TOWNE EXPO CENTER, SANDY UT

Join us for the 9th Annual Wasatch Fly Tying & Fly Fishing Expo! Come touch, feel, and play with some great gear. Raffle drawings, food, competitions – you don’t want to miss it! // $10.00 entrance fee for adults, children 15 and under are FREE. The $10.00 entrance fee is good for both days (you only pay $10 once). // Each entrance fee includes: 3 general raffle tickets, and an entry for a Guided Fly Fishing Trip, for 2!

Splore is providing a 4 hr paddling adventure on the Jordan River! Gear and training will be provided. Once on the water, your group will continue to improve paddling skills, build on some of the basics, and challenge yourselves with different activities and games. // Cost is $30 per participant. What in the heck is Municycling??? Have you ever seen a mountain biker on a unicycle??? We'll have 15-25 municyclers showing off their insane skills across a giant obstacle course at the Scheels parking lot in Sandy. Come make an afternoon of it - we'll have food trucks to keep you satisfied while you watch!

If you have a horse, we have an event for you!! An easy to medium ride lasting 2-2.5 hours on the Dimple Dell trail. Horseshoes are not required. Meet at the Wrangler (approx 1300 E 10400 S). Be ready to ride at 3pm!

The Utah Bike Summit is the statewide bicycle conference. The summit brings together everyday riders, bicycle and trail advocates, representatives from Utah’s bicycle industry, planners, engineers, representatives from Utah’s tourism industry and health fields, and local and state government officials in order to make Utah more bicycle friendly. Regardless of your interest in bicycling (transportation, recreation, road, mountain, commuter), the Utah Bike Summit is for you and all are encouraged to attend. Adventure Week brings the thrill of big time bike racing to Sandy and combines it with one of Utah's favorite Criterium events, The Utah Crit Series! On April 7 at 6pm the streets of Sandy will be alive with handlebar to handlebar bike race action. Both Pros and amateurs will be lining up for one of the most thrilling cycling events; a Criterium. The best racers in the state complete multiple laps on a short course over a set amount of time. The action is fast and furious as racers jockey for position in the corners and race headlong down the straightaways. The first to cross the finish line at the end of the allotted time brings home the glory and the medal. Join us at the Sandy Promenade and you will witness Criterium racing at its finest! You want in on the action? You want to ride the same course as the pros? Well YOU CAN! Hear the roar of the crowd, feel the wind whip past as you hurl down the strait and lean into the corners. The amateur and Citizen race begins at 6pm giving anyone with a bike and helmet a chance to feel the thrill! For more info, go to the Events section below.

Bingham Cyclery in Sandy is hosting a basic bike maintenance clinic for women. Learn quick tips to ensure your bike is ready to ride every day. Our professional female mechanic will also teach some basic trailside/roadside fixes that will help you get home safely if you encounter a mechanical issue on a ride. You'll learn to fix a flat, and how to tell if your bike needs professional attention. Ideal for road and mountain bike riders of all ability levels! // This clinic is free, and is instructional, with some hands-on. Friday - Saturday April 8-9 @ South Towne Expo Center: Crazy Small Track - Huge Fun!! Utah’s first mini velodrome cycling experience will be open to the public at the Adventure+Gear Fest!

Come test your skills on this intense little circle of fun. The track will be open to all to learn and experience riding on a velodrome. You can challenge your friends for some friendly competition or if you’re up for it register for the competitions on Saturday.

Saturday April 9th, 9am: Join us on Saturday morning for fun 5k run! The race starts at 9am at the Adventure+Gear Fest at the South Towne Expo Center. The trail runs begin at the Expo Center, then onto the Porter Rockwell Trail and continuing onto the Dimple Dell Trails.

Strider events will entertain your toddler and give them the opportunity to be part of a growing community of cycling enthusiasts! They will be making new friends and clicking their sippy-cups together as a cheers to a great day of friendly competition! Seeing these tiny tots racing around has us all saying one thing: "So, where do I sign up?!"

Thursday April 7, 6pm @ Sandy City Promenade: Adventure Week brings the thrill of big time bike racing to Sandy and combines it with one of Utah's favorite Criterium events, The Utah Crit Series!
On April 7 at 6pm the streets of Sandy will be alive with handlebar to handlebar bike race action. Both Pros and amateurs will be lining up for one of the most thrilling cycling events; a Criterium. The best racers in the state complete multiple laps on a short course over a set amount of time. The action is fast and furious as racers jockey for position in the corners and race headlong down the straightaways. The first to cross the finish line at the end of the allotted time brings home the glory and the medal. Join us at the Sandy Promenade and you will witness Criterium racing at its finest!
You want in on the action? You want to ride the same course as the pros? Well YOU CAN! Hear the roar of the crowd, feel the wind whip past as you hurl down the strait and lean into the corners. The amateur and citizen race begins at 6pm giving anyone with a bike and helmet a chance to feel the thrill! Sign up at the event. The entry fee is $20.

  • 5:00 - 5:45: Registration and sign-up
  • 6:00 - 6:30: C flite and Citizen race
  • 6:40 - 7:20: B flite and Masters race

  • Volunteers ages 10 and up.
  • Light breakfast & snacks will be provided. Please bring a water bottle
  • In you can, please bring gloves, a shovel or hoe, and wear long sleeves. If you do not have this equipment, no worries - come anyway! There will be other service opportunities for this project available without tools.
  • Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear closed toe shoes.
  • Those who register will receive a detailed e-mail in the days prior to the event, with updated weather information and more details about the project.

Shooting almost any subject at night can add mystery, intrigue and a special beauty that shooting the same subject during the daylight can’t match. In particular you will learn how to capture the beauty and majesty of the Milky Way along with an interesting foreground feature. Topics covered include:
  • Best lenses and equipment for shooting at night
  • Proper camera settings
  • How to find and forecast the position of the Milky Way
  • How to compose and focus at night
